Position overview

The Web Developer (Level 1) reports to the Lead Software Engineer and is responsible for providing expertise in a variety of websites and web applications developed and managed by Online Services.  

Position context

The Software Development team leads ACER’s advocacy of research-informed policies and practices to improve educational outcomes. 

 

Team members in ACER offices around the globe work collaboratively to communicate publicly how ACER's work contributes to improving learning and enhances ACER’s global brand and reputation as a source of quality research-based advice and influence.

 

We develop media and communications campaigns to support ACER’s corporate and project priorities, and often work in collaboration with relevant research partners. This includes the development, writing, publishing and dissemination of online and print content from and about ACER.

Job responsibilities

  • Contribute to the creation, maintenance, and evolution of the Online Services suite of websites, web applications and other web-based services, using industry best practices and leveraging the latest technologies where possible. 
  • Accurately create websites from designs, interpreting and adapting for a full suite of devices where necessary. 
  • Write clean, maintainable code, following best practices, and adhere to coding standards. 
  • Monitor and maintain the implementation of the ACER brand and corporate style. 
  • Take part in internal client meetings; facilitate client involvement in the development process and client handover/project implementation and user acceptance testing. 
  • Contribute to internal documentation and test plans as directed by the Lead Software Engineer. 
  • Participate in data management, data integration and planning processes, as required. 
  • Maintain a high standard of software engineering work and adhere to ACER’s policies, standards and practices. 
  • Participate in aspects of the project lifecycle, including requirements gathering, solution research and task quoting. 
  • Investigate and test software implementations. 
  • Undertake other duties as required as a team member of Corporate Communications.

Decision Making Authority

The Web Developer (Level 1) is required to use professional engineering skills and initiative, project management skills, and undertake responsibilities under the supervision of the Lead Software Engineer. Tasks and responsibilities require a high level of independence and good time management skills within multi-project environment.  A high level of initiative is expected in the technical carriage of the responsibilities for the position.  

 

All decisions involving project work or institutional capacity are always made with reference to the Lead Software Engineer.  

The Web Developer (Level 1) has no people management/supervisory responsibilities.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in computer science (or relevant equivalent) .
