Position overview

The Software Engineer (Level 2) – Data Solutions reports to the Technical Lead – Data Architect; is responsible for providing expertise in data systems development and data processing projects, including cloud-based data platforms and business intelligence applications.

Position Context

The Software Engineer (Level 2) – Data Solutions supports the design, development and maintenance of ACER's data platforms, reporting solutions and automation workflows. Working closely with the Technical Lead – Data Architect, this role contributes to the delivery of scalable cloud-based data solutions, business intelligence applications and data integration initiatives that enable informed decision-making and operational efficiency across the organisation. The position combines technical expertise in data engineering, analytics and software development with a strong focus on quality, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Job responsibilities

  • Contribute to data solutions development, report creation projects and other programming tasks as allocated by the Technical Lead – Data Architect.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining data systems and automation workflows in cloud-based platforms (Power Platforms, Azure, AWS) including deployment processes and pipelines.
  • Contribute to internal documentation and test plans.
  • Participate in data management, data integration and planning processes, as required.
  • Quality control implementations and automations.
  • Maintain high standard of engineering work and adhere to policies, standards and recommendations as set up by ACER management.
  • Take part in internal client meetings; facilitate client involvement in the data requirement gathering, development process and client handover/project implementation.
  • Participate in installation and upgrading of software applications according to the ACER licensing procedures and internal Information Technology department recommendations, if required.
  • Undertake other duties as required as a team member of Information Technology.

Decision Making Authority

The Software Engineer (Level 2) – Data Solutions is required to use professional data science and engineering skills and initiative, project management skills, and undertake responsibilities under the supervision of the Technical Lead – Data Architect. Tasks and responsibilities require a high level of independence and good time management skills within multi-project environment. A proactive approach is essential for successfully handling the technical responsibilities inherent to this role. All decisions involving project work or institutional capacity are always made with reference to the Technical Lead – Data Architect. The Software Engineer (Level 2) – Data Solutions has no people management/supervisory responsibilities.

Skills, knowledge and experience (Essential)

• Demonstrated commercial experience designing and implementing solutions using Microsoft 365 and Azure platforms.
• Advanced Power BI skills, including data modelling, DAX and dashboard/report development.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL and R, with experience using data processing tools and frameworks.
• Proven experience in data systems design, development and data modelling.
• Strong understanding of ETL processes, data integration and data management practices.
• Experience developing technical and operational documentation.
• Sound understanding of software development lifecycles and project delivery methodologies.
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Education

Bachelor Degree in Computer Science (Data Science or relevant equivalent)
