Position overview

The Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) is one of the world’s leading educational research and development organisations. ACER is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified markers to mark written responses from students wishing to gain entrance into tertiary institutions across Australia and internationally.

 

We are seeking applicants who:

  • are familiar with the ways in which students express themselves;
  • have an ability to interpret student responses in a positive, holistic way;
  • have the capacity to recognise that there are multiple ways of responding to written prompts, all of which can be valid;
  • have a deep level of understanding of the construct of writing;
  • a high level of reading literacy, including an ability to understand and reflect on a variety of complex texts; and
  • a high level of understanding of the generic characteristics of student writing, including text content, text structures and the mechanics of language.

 

Applicants should:

  • possess a relevant undergraduate degree qualification;
  • have a good level of computer literacy for online marker training and marking remotely on a personal device at home;
  • the ability to resolve issues such as logging in and accessing websites independently; and
  • experience of, and aptitude for, the marking of narrative/reflective writing and expository/persuasive writing.

 
Availability:
Applicants must be available to:

  • complete all pre-training marking exercises;
  • attend all marker training (held online);
  • mark remotely from home; and
  • commit to at least 35 hours per week - minimum of 5 hours per day to a maximum of 7.2 hours per day, during the marking cycle. 

 

Marking includes weekday and weekend work from 6am to 11pm. Marking will not occur on public holidays.

 

Dates:
Marking occurs twice annually. Applicants must be available to mark at the end of March, April and September.

 

Selection process:
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview and to complete pre-training marking exercises for selection.

 

Terms of employment:
Markers are appointed on a casual basis. Markers will be paid $54.12 per hour or $2.63 per script.
